FREE DANCE MASTER CLASS
February 20, 2010 - 12-1:15pm
Did you know that the unstructured dancing we do in Nia has a purpose and a form?
There are actually 8 Stages, and each stage has a focus of what to seek when you move.
This master class will "briefly" go over the 8 stages, and then you'll dance each stage
and at the end another "debriefing" of what you experienced.
A masterclass means you'll go a
little deeper than a normal class, but not as long as a workshop; there will be more focus on the
physical experience of the topic. This masterclass is great to freshen up on the 8 stages,
awaken more creativity in your body, and to learn more about what's behind this important part of a Nia class.
Fee: $10 ahead, $15 at the door. RSVP by email: mbfdancer@aol.com or phone: (941) 928-8866
GUTS AND GRACE PLAYSHOP
March 6, 2010 - 1-3pm
Explore the Balance of Yin and Yang Energy within the Body
From infancy we are taught what is "feminine" and "masculine" through the colors we are surrounded by, the way our parents interact with us, and also the toys we are encouraged to pick and how we play! This would be how we are socialized to understand our sex. It influences who we are and how we attract relationships around us. Often this simplistic understanding of a much larger issue interferes with balance within the body. Beyond the ideas of what's acceptable "boy" and what's "girl" behavior, there is an energy that moves through our bodies that is studied in Chinese medicine. This energy can be recognized through our movements, our voice, our posture, our foods we eat and more. It's an energy called "chi" that is flowing everywhere.
When it is in balance in our bodies, our bodies tell us through increased health, strong immune system, and strong sense of wellbeing and ease in reaching our potential. We thrive. When it's out of balance, (and it's of balance for most of us most of the time) there are varying levels of "dis-ease". For all of us, keeping this balance takes an understanding of yin/yang within the body and around us. We'll spend 1 hour exploring through discussion, journalling exercises, and freedance, then we'll dance the yin/yang balance through a 1 hour Nia experience.
Fee: $35 ahead, $40 at the door. Minimum of 10 necessary for this to be a go. Please RSVP by email: mbfdancer@aol.com or phone: (941) 928-8866
